When Life Gives You Lemons
For as long as I could remember, I loved the idea of being able to make my own clothes and create lookbook shoots.
It’s been one long journey in the making (learning how to pattern make, sew, photograph etc) but I’m so excited to share my first look of 2022 in today’s post!
I had actually planned for a lemon themed shoot back in 2020 as I had made another outfit (cropped top with matching A-line skirt) but didn’t get round to photographing it as I wasn’t really happy with how the print looked on the garment. Needless to say, that outfit hasn’t seen the daylight since it was made. Thankfully, I didn’t run into that problem again with this new dress. I am really happy with how it turned out!
Initially, I had a bit of fit issues at the back (it was a little loose at my lower back) and I wasn’t sure how to alter it but after praying about it, what came to mind was to shirr it at the back and it worked! That really helped to cinch in the dress to make it more fitted.
I’m also really happy with how this cute lemon clutch complements the look! I got it from a store on shopee called IELGY last year but it seems that it is no longer selling. There was also a watermelon style on the listing which is also really cute!
I thought that finding a lemon-inspired clutch would make a cute complement to the dress but I also learned that it is really convenient to have it store my phone whilst shooting. I use my phone as a wireless remote to my camera for the self-timer feature and this comes in clutch (pun intended) because I no longer have to put my phone on the floor or out of frame when taking photos.
I also purchased a yellow gingham picnic mat to use as a prop and I would have shot more looks on it if I had a proper picnic set up. I guess that can be an idea for another day.
Anyways, this is just a quick post on the outfit. I am so happy that I have finally come out of my creative rut and now I feel motivated to sew and create more look books!
I was planning to vlog the process too but I haven’t gotten a wide angle lens yet. That is next on my to-purchase list but for now, I’m loving my new Sony A7IV camera and Sony 35 F1.4 GM lens! It’s such a compact setup that packs a punch! Really happy with how the photos turned out and overall ease of use of the camera!
I also made a short reel of this dress. Check it out below :)
